How it works
- Your past customer list
- Short personal emails go out on a schedule
- Replies and bookings come to you
The problem
Past customers are some of the easiest jobs to win back, and most of them never hear from you again. Win-back emails remind them you’re still here, so the next job comes to you instead of whoever shows up first in a search.
Most businesses have a list of past customers who were happy with the work and just never came back. They didn’t pick someone else on purpose. Two years went by, the furnace needed service again, and they searched online instead of remembering your name. Most small businesses never contact them because nobody has time to write and send the emails.
What I set up
A set of short emails that go out to past customers on a schedule that makes sense for your work, like a reminder when a yearly service is due or a check-in after a long gap. They’re written to sound like you, not like a marketing blast. When someone wants to book, they reply or click straight through to your calendar. In towns like Ephrata and Moses Lake, a lot of your past customers already know your name. These emails make sure they remember it when the work comes up again.
What you get
A few emails written in your voice, for the situations that fit your business.
Your customer list cleaned up and split so the right people get the right message.
Sending on a schedule, without you thinking about it.
A simple count of who opened, replied and booked, so you can see whether it’s worth keeping.
What it takes from you
- An export of past customers with names, emails and the date of their last job, from whatever system you use now.
- A short conversation about what you want to offer people, if anything.
- A quick review of each email before it goes out.
Honest limits
- It only works if you have past customers’ email addresses. If your records are mostly paper, I’d start by getting those into a list.
- It only goes to people who’ve done business with you, and every email has an unsubscribe link. I don’t send to purchased lists.
- Results depend on your work. A business people need every year will see more come back than one that does a job once a decade.
If new jobs are slipping because quotes go out late, automated quotes help on the front end.
