This site collects very little, and I use what you send me only to reply to you and to do the work you ask about.

Who I am
I’m Dean Christensen. I run Basin Automations, part of Basin Innovations, from Ephrata, WA. This page explains what this website collects, what I do with it and how to reach me about it.
You can call or text me at (509) 431-6661, or send a message through the contact page.
What I collect
- The contact form: your name, email, business name, phone number if you choose to give it, and your message.
- Anything you send me directly: emails, calls and texts, and whatever you include in them.
- Call recordings: only with your OK. See Call recordings below.
- Server logs: like most web hosts, the company that hosts this site keeps standard logs, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you requested. These are used for security and to keep the site running.
That’s it. I don’t buy lists or collect information about you from other sources.
How I use it
I use your information to reply to you, to follow up about the work you asked about and, if we end up working together, to keep basic records of that work.
I don’t sell it, rent it or share it with anyone for marketing. I won’t put you on a marketing email list unless you ask to be on one.
Call recordings
I record calls, the free 20-minute call and the discovery session, only with your OK. I use the recording for a transcript, so I can go back through the details with AI instead of taking notes while we talk.
Recordings are stored on my own devices, not in a shared cloud drive. I usually transcribe them on my own computer with Whisper, a speech-to-text tool that runs offline. To transcribe or review them, I may also use an AI model running on my own hardware, or upload a recording to Claude (made by Anthropic) or ChatGPT (made by OpenAI). I use a recording for your project and nothing else. If you’d like yours deleted, ask and I’ll delete it.
Washington law (RCW 9.73.030) requires everyone on a call to agree before it’s recorded, so I always ask first. You can say no, and we’ll just talk.
Who else handles it
A few services handle information for me so I can run the site and talk to you:
- Netlify hosts this site and receives contact form submissions. Netlify checks each submission for spam using Akismet, a spam-filtering service.
- My email provider sends and stores my replies to you.
- My phone carrier handles calls and texts.
- Fantastical (Flexibits) runs my booking page. When you book a call, it collects what you enter there, like your name, email and answers to a few questions, and adds the meeting to my calendar.
- Anthropic makes Claude, an AI tool I may use to transcribe or review call recordings and their transcripts.
- OpenAI makes ChatGPT, which I may also use to transcribe or review call recordings and their transcripts.
They handle it to provide those services. I don’t share your information with anyone else unless the law requires it.
How long I keep it
Contact form messages arrive in my email, and I keep them there like any other correspondence. If you’d like yours deleted, ask and I’ll delete it. The same goes for call recordings.
If we work together, I keep your records as long as I need them for the work, and for as long as tax and legal record-keeping requires.
Cookies, tracking and Do Not Track
This site doesn’t set cookies and doesn’t use analytics or ad trackers. The font is stored on the site itself, so loading a page doesn’t send a request to Google Fonts.
Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal. Because nothing on this site tracks you across other sites, that signal doesn’t change anything here. No third parties collect information about your activity across different websites through this site.
Your choices
You can ask me to show you what I have from you, correct it or delete it. Usually that’s your contact form submission and our emails, calls or texts. Call or text (509) 431-6661, or send a message through the contact page. I’ll reply within 30 days.
If I need to keep something, for example a tax record from paid work, I’ll tell you what and why.
Children
This site isn’t meant for anyone under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has sent me something, let me know and I’ll delete it.
Security
I take reasonable steps to protect what you send me, and the site is served over HTTPS, so the connection between your browser and the site is encrypted. Nothing online is perfectly secure, though, so I can’t promise it will never be exposed. If your information is involved in a data breach, I’ll tell you as the law requires.
Changes to this page
When I change this page, the “Last updated” date at the top changes too, and I’ll note any significant change here.
I may add a demo chatbot to this site later. Before it collects anything, I’ll update this page to say what it collects and why.
