How it works

  1. A customer asks a question on your site
  2. The chat answers from your own information
  3. It books the job, or hands off to you

The problem

Every question you answer for the tenth time is time away from the job, and every question nobody answers is a customer who moves on. A FAQ and booking chatbot answers them on your website while you’re busy, and books the appointment.

Most businesses get the same questions over and over. Do you work in my area, how soon can you come out, what does a typical job cost, are you open Saturday. Every one of those takes a few minutes of someone’s time, and when nobody’s free to answer, the person on your website moves on to the next company.

What I set up

A chat window on your website that answers questions from your own information: your services, service area, hours, policies and the answers you already give on the phone. When someone is ready, it books them into an open slot on your calendar. If you’re in Ephrata, Moses Lake or elsewhere in the Columbia Basin, I can sit down with you and set it up in person.

When it doesn’t know an answer, it says so and takes their name and number for you to call back. It doesn’t guess. I’d rather it hand off a question than make something up. I use the same approach in the text support platform I’m building for internet providers.

What you get

  • Answers on your website at any hour, in plain language.

  • Appointments booked straight into your calendar, with the details you need.

  • A list of the questions people actually ask, which is useful on its own. It usually shows what’s missing from your website.

  • Changes when your prices, hours or services change.

What it takes from you

  • About an hour to walk me through the questions you get and how you answer them.
  • Access to your website and your calendar, or a booking calendar I set up for you.
  • A quick review of the answers before it goes live.

Honest limits

  • It answers from what you give it. If the information is out of date, the answers will be too, so it needs an update when things change.
  • It won’t quote a job price unless you give it firm rules for that. Anything that’s a judgment call goes to you.
  • Dental and medical offices: I keep these to FAQs and booking only. It doesn’t ask about or store any patient health information.
  • It isn’t a replacement for a good person on the phone. It covers the times when that person is busy or the office is closed.

If most of your missed work comes in by phone after hours, look at the after-hours answering service instead.

Here’s how working together goes, starting with a free 20-minute call.
